Which taxing units are on a Plano bill?
Most Plano homes pay the City of Plano, Collin County, Collin College and Plano ISD. Homes in the small Denton County part, or zoned to Lewisville, Frisco or Allen ISD, carry those units' rates instead. A PID assessment is added in Downtown Plano, Haggard Farm, Collin Creek East and Collin Creek West.
The Collin Central Appraisal District values most homes. Denton CAD values the Denton County part. The Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector bills and collects city taxes.
What are the current Plano tax rates?
The City lists these 2025 adopted rates per $100 of taxable value:
City of Plano: $0.4376. Collin County: $0.1493. Collin College: $0.0812. Plano ISD: $1.0396.
Taxing units set new rates each fall. Confirm the current-year figures on the appraisal record for the exact address.
Which homestead exemptions apply in Plano?
The City lists these general homestead exemptions. City of Plano: 20%. Collin County: the greater of $5,000 or 5%. Collin College: the greater of $5,000 or 20%. Plano ISD: $140,000, the state-required school exemption.
Owners 65 and older or disabled get an extra $40,000 city exemption and an extra $60,000 school exemption. The City also freezes its tax for owners 65 and older. File before May 1. If you buy after January 1, you may qualify for the rest of that year if the seller did not claim it.
How much can my appraisal rise each year?
Once your homestead qualifies, its appraised value cannot rise more than 10% a year. This starts January 1 of the following tax year. A temporary 20% circuit breaker limit applies to some non-homestead property valued at $5,320,000 or less.
How do I protest my value?
The deadline is May 15 or 30 days after the appraisal district mails your notice, whichever is later. Bring recent sales of similar homes and evidence of needed repairs.
Many owners start with an informal review before a formal hearing.
How do PIDs affect a Plano purchase?
A PID repays public improvements through an annual assessment, and you can often pay it off early. The City created the Collin Creek East and West PIDs in July 2026. Sellers must give you a written PID notice before you sign.
Ask for the PID's Service and Assessment Plan too. It shows how the annual installment is figured and how many years remain.
