Fort Myers Beach school ratings and districts start with the School District of Lee County. It runs the public schools that serve the island. There is no high school on the barrier islands, so island students attend mainland high schools.

Which school district serves Fort Myers Beach?

The School District of Lee County serves all of Fort Myers Beach and the rest of Lee County. For 2025-2026, the Florida Department of Education gave the district a grade of "B". The district reported this in July 2026.

How are students assigned to schools in Fort Myers Beach?

Elementary and middle schools use a Proximity Plan. Parents rank the schools in their proximity zone. Seats are filled using preferences such as siblings and distance. High school uses three large choice zones, West, East and South. Each is split into sub-zones.

Registration for the next school year opens the first Monday in November through the district's FOCUS parent portal. Applying on the first day does not give an advantage, because placements are made after the window closes.

How does school assignment work for the island?

The island's elementary school sits mid-island. Under the district's 2026-27 plan, any student in the county may request the Fort Myers Beach school, but district buses are not provided for that choice.
