What is it like to live in Flower Mound?

Flower Mound is a town in southern Denton County. It is about 28 miles northwest of downtown Dallas and 25 miles northeast of Fort Worth. It sits three miles north of DFW International Airport, between Grapevine Lake and Lewisville Lake. Most housing is single-family homes in subdivisions, with larger rural-style lots on the west side.

The town manages growth closely through its Master Plan. Its SMARTGrowth program ties new building to roads, services and school space. Daily life is car-dependent, with no rail station in town. Which parts of Flower Mound should I look at?

Central and east Flower Mound hold established subdivisions, parks and most shopping. They are usually closest to I-35E and SH 121. The west side includes the Cross Timbers Conservation Development District, where most homes sit on lots of two acres or more.

Canyon Falls is a newer master-planned community shared with Northlake and Argyle, with a nature preserve and trails. River Walk at Central Park is a mixed-use area with its own Public Improvement District. Lakeside, near Grapevine Lake, is mainly a business and hotel district with limited condo living.

How do I get around from Flower Mound?

The main roads are FM 2499, FM 1171, FM 3040, FM 407 and US 377. From there you reach I-35E, I-635, SH 114 and SH 121. Most commuters drive, and the town is about 10 miles from Alliance Airport as well as three miles from DFW.

Flower Mound is not a member city of the Denton County Transportation Authority. The nearest A-train stop is Highland Village/Lewisville Lake Station in Lewisville. The town offers SPAN on-demand rides for residents 65 and older or with disabilities.

How do schools work in Flower Mound?

Most of Flower Mound is served by Lewisville ISD and Argyle ISD. Denton, Grapevine-Colleyville and Northwest ISDs serve small areas. Canyon Falls, for example, is split between Argyle ISD and Northwest ISD.

What is there to do in Flower Mound?

Twin Coves Park on Grapevine Lake has cabins, RV and tent sites, a boat ramp and a kayak launch. It connects to the Northshore Trail. Heritage Park has a splash pad, a disc golf course and free Friday concerts in May. The Community Activity Center has an indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor water park.

The town’s namesake mound is a 12.76-acre prairie with more than 175 wildflower species. The nonprofit Flower Mound Foundation cares for it. North Central Texas College also has a Flower Mound campus at Parker Square.
